Tonfa

The Tonfa, as Seidokan uses the weapon, is used not only in the conventional way as most Shorin Ryu and Kobudo styles would. Kata is about the same ... but Seidokan departs from most when we teach the self-defense of this weapon.  Most of the two man yakuzuku kumite with this weapon utilizes the end of the weapon normally used for striking as the handle.  When holding the end of the weapon we do not performing any spinning of the tonfa.  Our use is to grab, lock, throw, and strike.  The handle becomes the striking end and the entire weapon becomes a lever.
